Common Origin Myths
According to the Zoroastrian creation myth, Gayōmart was the first Human Life, created by Ahura Mazda after he had created the Earth. Gayōmart was neither man nor woman. Angra Mainyu, the force of Evil, sent a demon to kill Gayōmart, from whose body sprang a tree, which bore the first man, Mashya, and the first woman, Mashyana. He is raised to status of king while the rest of the world lives in Caves and dresses in skins, and is embued by God with the gift of Farr (Fire of Concience) which before was reserved only for God. Later this king is called Yima or Ama and an account is given in the mythology that makes this king (and or his posterity by the same name) ruler from the inception of civilization to the destruction thereof during the reign of Jamaseth. This creation story predates the Biblical version by nearly a 1000 years. Story of Gayomart
Islam teaches that the first human soul was neither male or female. From this soul God created its mate and differentiated it so that they would need each other and from this pair created all men and women that walk this earth. Quran (7:189).
In Norse Mythology Othinn Alfar gives life to the first man and woman (Ask and Embla) who were created from a tree probably portions of the World Ash or Yggdrasil. Ask and Embla
The Tree of Life is a universal Archetype common to most theologies. In scientific thought is it speculated that the universal Archetype of the Tree of Life is vestigial memory as a result of prenatal visions of the placenta within the womb. Tree of Life
In Egyptian Mythology, The first mortal beings were said to have sprung from the sacred acacia tree of Saosis (Sacotia) which itself had sprung from the semen of Atum (a hermaphrodite).
In Kassite Mythology another name for Adam is Abgallu/Apkal (Ab=water, Gal=Great, Lu=man) a reference to Adapa, the first sage. In the mythology of Sumer, Adapa was a mortal from a godly lineage who brought the arts of civilization to that city (from Dilmun, according to some versions). He broke the wings of Ninlil the South Wind, who had overturned his fishing boat, and was called to account before Anu. Ea, his patron god, warned him to apologise humbly for his actions, but not to partake of food or drink while he was in heaven, as it would be the food of death. Anu, impressed by Adapa's sincerity, offered instead the food of immortality, but Adapa heeded Ea's advice, refused, and thus missed the chance for immortality that would have been his.[|Adapa]
Human Longevity
With regard to the ages of individuals in the first creation. In some traditions Adam is warned by God not to eat of the fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil. On the day he eats of the fruit he die. Hebrew tradition equates one day of God to 1000 years of man. Following the fall from immortality, the age of man appears to have been approximately < 1000 years. Although as a scientist I am a bit skeptical about that possibility, I am also willing to admit that I don't know everything. Given primordial conditions, the relative lack of disease, pollution, and over population, it could be possible. Since so much of the traditions are shared between the Zoroastrian (Annunaki), Hebrew, Greek, Persian, Hittite, and Egyptian traditions I am willing to give the genealogies and histories the benefit of the doubt with regard to the ages of man.
In this light, it becomes clear that the Sons of Adam differ from the sons of Aesma in their longevity with the sons of Aesma dying out and the daughters of Aesma becoming incorporated into the lineages of the sons of Adam. The anti-diluvial Sons of Noah display longevity that is similar to Prediluval sons of Adam but which begin to rapidly shrink depending on which area of the world the sons settle in and and with which predeluvial lineage they intermarry. The Sons of Ham who intermarry with the lineages of the Mitzraim (People of the tight places who survived the flood outside of the ark) loose their longevity much quicker than the sons of Japheth and Shem whose descendants married largely within the lineage of Noah. When the lineages collide the genealogy charts make the longevity disparity obvious and it is not surprizing that the Sons of Noah would become the source of myths regarding "the immortals."
Although the life span of Terach, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Esau and Jacob is very long in comparison to the populations with whom they intermarried, the life span at that point in no way approaches the life spans of their pre-diluvian elders. This is consistent with scientific observation with regard to genetic behaviour in a mixed genepool. It is interesting to speculate that perhaps the flood did not occur in the region in which Noah landed.. That is the progenitors of Noah were not from the Middle East, but rather from some part of the world where longevity was a norm rather than and exception. And being shut 40 days within the ark without sight of landmarks may have prevented the descendants of Noah from identifying that they had indeed been propelled by the floodwaters to an entirely new region only to emerge among populations of man where such longevity was unusual. Thus the time span between Noah and the Exodus is quite skewed with regard to relative generations.
Unsolved Mysteries
Scientists are still divided with regard to the genetic makeup of human beings. On one hand they can conclusively prove that there is a native African component to the all modern humans. However in isolated areas of West Africa and elsewhere in Asia, Australia, and the Americas there is evidence of a second strain of Ancient DNA that appears to have originated in the Far North-East. There is also the mystery of how DNA unique to France and Gaul would end up among the ancient populations of pre-columbian Native Americans in the great lakes region as well as the still unsolved mysterious origin of the now extinct red-headed giants of Pre-Columbian Patagonia.

What is not considered by many Creationists is that in the mythology of the creation nothing is said in the Bible about the generations of Mainyu living before Adam and Eve, and what their various natures were, and how long they dominated the earth during the period of God's rest or how long that rest (epoch) took. Biblical history begins with the First Self Aware and Highly Reasoning Man and Woman. It is possible that this period of rest would account for the passage of time as observed by scientists wherein lesser beings ruled the earth. I maintain that there are a wealth of answers about man that could be found during this period of latent creation.
Iconography
In the iconography of Upper Mesopotamia, Utu is depicted as wearing a horned helmet and carrying a saw-edged weapon not unlike a pruning saw. It is said of him, "He rises in the mountains of the east and sets in the mountains of the west. Other Mesopotamian myths claim he arrived in the west from Dilmun (a legendary land in the East)
